Luxury Apartments Coming to Grant Park

According to a recent article in the AJC, developers are planning a luxury apartment building in Atlanta’s Grant Park neighborhood, adjacent to the Beltline and the Glenwood Park mixed-use community.

The property was purchased for $3.6 million in 2005 by the Trust for Public Land. The nonprofit land trust, which operates across the country, has acquired several other parcels along the Beltline to preserve for future parks.

The developers, Mark Mechlowitz and Colin Cavill, are seeking approval to change the zoning from industrial to mixed-use residential. The 4-acre property, at 880 Glenwood Road, includes several small light-industrial buildings that would be torn down to make way for the apartments.

Plans still are being finalized, but the project could include 282 units in a five-story building, a fitness center, pool and courtyard and possibly several live-work units, said Sharon Gay, an attorney for the developers. The units would be built at “condo quality,” Gay said, enabling the project to be converted to condos if and when market conditions change.

The developers have the property under contract, Edelson said, with a provision that allows Beltline officials to purchase a 30-foot right of way if they deem it necessary. That decision has not been made, Edelson said.
