Offshore Oil Exploration

Mr. Pope also broadcast an e-letter on Thursday. This one about oil wells.

“We’re launching a petition with our friends at MoveOn.org urging Congress to reject the plan to help Big Oil drill along our coastline.”

“Any oil found along our coasts wouldn’t be available until 2030. By then it would only add to the oil industry’s tens of billions of dollars in record profits — at the cost of our nation’s pristine beaches and wild places.”

Accepting this would require a “suspension of disbelief.” Further, I can not believe that Mr. Pope believes that it will take 22 years to find and deliver oil along the US coastline. The frightening thing is that some of his subscribers will believe, believe every word.

Reality: If it will take 2 or 5 or 10 or 15 or 22 years to get this oil, then we damn well better start soon.

“Drilling for oil destroys our pristine beaches and wild places”? What a line of tripe. Our Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama beaches are very healthy, and very popular, thank you very much. It is common knowledge and undisputable that offshore oil rigs are ideal fish and sea creature habitat.

Save our seafood industry. Build more oil rigs now.
